Snake Tartare
Male American Kestrel with Snake
Northwest Elbert County, Colorado
The male kestrel has been very successful this year with finding snakes for the chicks. Last year the meal of choice was lizard. This year it is snake. Last year the adults were much more vocal about when they had food and the chicks responded equally as noisy. This year, often there is no announcement that they are bringing food. They just appear out of nowhere.
