Shooting the Moon
Common Goldeneye Performing Mating Ritual
Wheat Ridge, CO
This kick display is part of a goldeneye mating ritual step that can start with the male touching the crown of his head to his back and then skicking while projecting his head upward. Then the duck stretches his neck as far as it will go with his beak still projecting upwards--thus "shooting the moon."
