Mile High Wildlife Photo Club

October 2010 Meeting Summary

< Previous Meeting | Index | Next Meeting > The presenter at our October meeting was one of our own, club member Gordon Illg of Adventure Photography. Using beautiful images taken by him and his wife Cathy, Gordon gave us many excellent pointers on taking our bird photography to the next level. Gordon pointed out that it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain a show-stopping bird photograph due to the exponential improvements in digital photography equipment. Many bird photographers now have images that would have been one of a kind in film photography days. To enable your bird photography to be one of a kind, Gordon suggested including behavior, environment, or atypical lighting (backlighting for example). Gordon's sense of humor made the evening enjoyable as well as educational! For a listing of the photography trips that Gordon and Cathy will be leading, see the Adventure Photography website at www.advenphoto.com.

After the presentation, Gordon judged the monthly competition images. His judging continued the educational bent of the evening, as he described what he liked about each image and what he might suggest to improve it, while maintaining the humor of the evening. Gordon's comment about Bob West's 1st place winning moose image (club wildlife category) was "The only thing wrong with this image is I don't have one like it....."

At the beginning of the meeting, there was an extended discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of having presenters who are not club members judge the monthly competition images.

Before the presentation, Matt Schaefer, Club President, called to order the annual business meeting of the club. He announced the nominations for the club's officers. The opportunity was given for nominations from the floor. Then, the assembled club membership unamimously accepted the nominated new officers: Bob Cross, President; Bob Stocker, Vice-President; Patrick Devereaux, Secretary-Treasurer.

The membership then discussed that Bob Cross (with assistance from his son), will look into what would be required to update the club's microphone/speaker system. < Previous Meeting | Index | Next Meeting >
