Going up Mount Evans this morning I ran across a flock of ptarmigan. The first time I found any ptarmigan anywhere despite apparently looking in all the wrong places. The Forest Ranger at the summit said that they have been crossing the road just before mile marker 14 between 8 AM and 10 AM for the last couple of weeks.

This is great information. Photographing ptarmigan in the winter after several miles of snowshoeing our equipment up to Guanella Pass may be beyond many of us. But the curve near the 14 mile marker on Mt. Evans is a definite possibility. Thank you.
