Yesterday I "upgraded" to the recently released Photoshop CC 2015.5 on my Mac desktop. I use Select/Refine Edge with almost every photo that I process.

The first time I used 2015.5 the keyboard shortcut (OPTION+COMMAND+R) it brought up something that looked like an enhanced version of Refine Edge with additional view options that could be cycled through by typing F.

I might have grow to like the enhanced version, but the next time I used 2015.5, typing the F key gave a program error.

After that, the PS icon on my task bar was overwritten with a question mark and I was unable to start PS by clicking on the task bar icon. I was, however, able to start 2015.5 from within Lightroom and the Creative Cloud app. As long as I stayed away from the new views, the enhanced version of Refine Edge seemed to work.

Today, Refine Edge was completely missing. I uninstalled and reinstalled 2015.5 a couple of times and rebooted, but (OPTION+COMMAND+R) continued to do nothing. Refine Edge was also missing from the Select menu. It appears to have been replaced by something called Select and Mask. However, Select and Mask was grayed out.

With some effort, I've managed to uninstall 2015.5 and reinstall 2015. (You have to click Find Additional Apps, click the blue Previous Version, then click the Install button for Photopshop. You then get an opportunity to select which version you want.)

I think I'll wait awhile before installing 2015.5 again.

Hi Bob, I assume you are using "refine edge" for fine adjustment of selections. The new method in PS 15.5 reminds me of the Topaz Remask which is fantastic. As you know you can get to it Ctrl+Alt+R (Windows) or Cmd+Option+R (Mac). The F key cycles through the View style which gives you great choices as to what you want your selection and edges to look like. It does the same as the older version but "in a more refined way" looks easier to me(?). Check out page 303 of this pdf. https://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/photoshop_reference.pdf
